Leadership Development

Leading Challenges understands the connections between emotions and one's abilities to lead. Leaders execute a vision by motivating, inspiring, listening, guiding, and persuading others. We believe, and current research supports that today's successful leaders are so because of Emotional Intelligence.

The basic premise of our Leadership Development training programs is that learning to be an effective leader is no different than learning to be an effective person.

The Leadership Myth

The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born---that there is a genetic factor to leadership. This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. That is nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born. And the way we become leaders is by learning about leadership through life and job experiences, not university degrees.

Leaders Are Made by Learning How to Learn

At Leading Challenges we begin exploring your capacity to learn something new. It is our working assumption that as adults we rarely have the opportunity to place ourselves in the role of learner. Some of us have gone back to school to earn a degree or to participate in a special institute. We have attended in-service or on-the-job educational programs in our company or organization. But, too often, the learning environment we encounter is low-risk and protected. We frequently passively skate through without having to confront our basic assumptions.

Leading Challenges advocates a different quality of learning experience. As we see it, active, risky, self-conscious, and committed learning is required in order to become the leaders demanded by today's complex and crisis-oriented environment.

Emotional Intelligence and Leadership

"For too long, managers have seen emotions at work as noise cluttering the rational operation of organizations. But the time for ignoring emotions as irrelevant to business has passed."

"Gifted leadership occurs where heart and head, feeling and thought meet"
